Venue Information

The Digital Music Research Network Summer Conference 2007 will be held at the distinguished Headingley Campus in the North of the city. It is a peaceful, secure and friendly environment only a few minutes from the world-famous Headingley cricket ground with a host of facilities together on one site: café, bar, the Students' Union, cash points, bookshop and travel agency. The conference facilities are housed in historical buildings, housing state-of-the-art information technology, lecture theatres and laboratories.

Leeds and surrounding area

Historically an industrial town of textiles and engineering, Leeds has successfully adapted itself to a changing world, investing in finance, leisure, culture and digital media. It balances its historical heritage with life as a vibrant modern city: refurbished arcades, theatres, squares, and waterfronts provide visitors and residents with a rich variety of eating, shopping and cultural experiences.

It is also one of the greenest cities in England, boasting acres of public parks and gardens, among them, Beckett Park. Once part of the estate of Kirkstall Abbey, it is now home to Leeds Metropolitan University, and will provide a scenic backdrop to our conference.

Situated on the North West edge of the city, Headingley Campus is ideally placed for access to the Yorkshire Dales, with their stunning scenery and picturesque villages. The famous Ilkley Moor is only half an hour away and within an hour you can be in the heart of the Dales, so the conference offers an ideal opportunity to explore this delightful part of Northern England.

Travel

From Leeds City Centre to Headingley Campus

From the M621 follow Meadow Rd, Victoria Rd and Neville St to City Square. This is City Centre Loop junction 1. Follow the signs to "Universities" or "Headingley". As you reach the Civic Hall, and before you come to the Leeds Met Calverley Street buildings, turn right onto Portland Way. At the top of Portland Way, turn left onto the A660. Continue on the A660 for about 4 miles. After passing Headingley and the Arndale shopping centre, Headingley Campus (or Beckett Park Campus as it used to be called) is signposted to your left. If you have reached the Ring Road you better turn round at the large roundabout because you have gone too far!

Headingley Campus is in the North of Leeds. If you are coming from the north of Yorkshire simply follow Leeds and then signs to Headingley. Fom the A660 (Otley Road) you will find that Headingley Campus (or Beckett Park Campus as it used to be called) is signposted to your right. If you have reached Headingley and you are heading towards the centre of Leeds you better turn round because you have gone too far!

Approaches to Leeds City Centre

Leeds is well served by motorway, with links from the M1 and M62.
From the north: A1-A58.
From the east: M62 to J29, then M621 to J3.
From the south/south-east: M1 to J43, then M621 to J3.
From the south-west: M62 to J27, then M621 to J3.
From the west: A65 via Kirkstall.
From the north-west: A660 via Headingley.

Routes around the city

The Inner Ring Road is designed to route traffic away from the centre of Leeds. The main stretch runs in a semi-circle from west (A58(M)) to east (A64(M)). In the west, it connects with the M621 J2 via the Armley Gyratory and A643; in the east, it connects with M621 J4 via the A61.

The City Centre Loop allows traffic to flow clockwise around the City Centre, without having to enter it. Junction 1, City Square, is the one that motorway traffic from the south will feed into.
