Dr. Krishna Chandramouli received the PhD degree from Queen Mary, University of London. He is currently working in Queen Mary,
University of London as a research assistant. His research interests include biologically inspired optimisation techniques, machine learning,
semantic analysis and retrieval of multimedia content and summarisation of video content. He has published more than 30 technical papers
and reports in various international conferences and book chapters. He has actively participated in several EU funded projects including K-Space,
MESH, RUSHES and has been a key contributor to PAPYRUS, where he led the work package on Targeted Multimedia Content Analysis and
currently is coordinating a field trial in NoE PetaMedia project funded from FP7 programme.
Research Scope:
In the recent past, researchers have shown considerable interest in the area
of Biologically Inspired Systems, and are developing optimisation algorithms,
inspired Artificial Life (A-Life). These algorithms when applied to classical
optimisation problem has out performed state-of-the are algorithms. However,
such developments are poorly investigated in the area of Image Clustering and
Classification. Hence, this research concentrates on developing a framework
for implementing efficient and effective Image Clustering/Classification
algorithm using Particle Swarm Optimisation, developed by Eberhart and Kennedy.
Research Contribution:
Developed an integrated visual classification framework based on Self
Organising Maps.
The framework exploits the recent developments of Particle Swarm Optimisation
for optimal training of the network nodes of Self OrganisingMaps.
The framework is applied to extract the visual semantics of the
multimedia content and model human subjectivity for image retrieval.
Elementary principle of chaos is introduced to model the behaviour of
Particle Swarm Optimisation.
The textual information associated with multimedia documents is
identified as a rich source of complementary information for extracting
high-level semantics. And effective techniques has been proposed to combine
the results of textual and visual analysis.
An ontology driven video processing framework has been developed to
enable semantic retrieval of video data.

machine learning, semantic retrieval of multimedia content, summarisation of media items,
object detection for surveillance applications, cultural adaptation of eLearning systems,
Knowledge representation of the user modelling and social semantic architectures.
