Oliver M. ShepherdContact DetailsTitle: Research Student Room: 402 Research Group: Networks Research Group Supervisor: Prof. Jonathan M. Pitts Project title: Internet Telephony in Multi-Scale 802.11 Wireless NetworksBiographyOliver Shepherd was educated in Britain and the United States and received his BEng degree in Computer Engineering with 1st Class Honours from Queen Mary, University of London in 2006. He is a full member of the IET and student member of the IEEE. His undergraduate final year project was a novel, multi-scale, client distribution system using ‘intelligent DNS’ to distributed clients to the best perceived server in terms of the users estimated quality of experience; this quality of experience measure encapsulated both network performance and server load. The project was based on research and implementation and a full working system was demonstrated. During his time as an undergraduate he was awarded the College Drapers Company Prize for an Outstanding Finalist Student, the Best Penultimate Year Student in Electronic Engineering from the IEEE Communications Society and the Best Demonstrated Design and Build Group Project; which he was the group leader for. Oliver is now undertaking a PhD in multi-scale wireless networks with particular emphasis on voice performance and again analysing from a quality of experience point of view. One of the novelties is bringing together results from maths modelling, large scale simulations and later, experimentation.
