My research is in the area of Computer Vision and Pattern recognition with applications in Multimedia Analysis and Multimodal Human Computer Interaction. This includes low level analysis as well as learning from large datasets or from user interaction. I am particularly interested in the problems of Motion Analysis (including tracking and motion estimation), (semantic) Object Segmentation and (Human) Action Recognition (including face and gesture analysis). A recent line of activity involves multimodal human sensing for gesture-based gaming and for Brain Computer Interfaces. I am an associate editor of the Image and Vision Computing Journal and of the journal of Multimedia, the general chair of the 10th Int'l Workshop of Image Analysis for Multimedia Interactive Services and in the organisation committee of a number of conferences and workshops.

Vacancies

A number of PhD positions are open in the fields of Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition with emphasis on Multimedia Analysis (e.g. Image and Video Analysis, Multimedia Indexing, Multisensor Fusion) and on Multimodal Human Computer Interaction (e.g. Gesture-based Gaming and Brain Computer Interafaces). A Masters degree in Computer Science or Electronic/Electrical Engineering is required. The positions offer the possibility for close collaboration with the industry and with top academic institutions in Europe.
