Short Bio
In 1998, Juan Pablo Bello, b. 1976, received an engineering
degree in electronics from the Universidad Simon Bolivar in
Caracas, Venezuela. After a two-year period working for Procter and
Gamble, he received awards from institutions in Venezuela, the US
and the UK, to pursue PhD studies, first at King's College London
and then at Queen Mary, University of London. Under the supervision
of Prof. Mark Sandler, he finalised his PhD work in 2003 on the
automatic transcription of simple polyphonic music. This research
was an essential part of the Online Music Recognition and Searching
(OMRAS) project. Currently, Juan is the Technical Manager of
the Centre for Digital Music. His research is mainly focused on the
semantic analysis of musical signals and its applications to music
information retrieval, digital audio effects and live electronics.
