Neural Representation of Sounds: A Tour of Auditory Centres in the Human Central
Nervous System
Chris Landone, Centre for Digital Music, Queen
Mary University of London / SePta, Milan, Italy
Wed 28 January 2004
This talk will examine how sound waves are processed in the sub-cortical
pathways between the cochlea and the auditory cortex, providing
particular emphasis on the manner in which complex sounds are
represented in terms of neural spiking patterns.
This tour will cover in particular the processes involved in human
auditory localisation but will hopefully provide some ideas for
the implementation of physiology-based extensions to the usual
time-frequency representations of sound stimuli.
