Research SeminarsWavelet based Scalable Video Coding ArchitecturesAlberto Signoroni, Università degli Studi di Brescia, ItalyWed 20 April 2005, 3 p.mAbstractScalability features are more and more requested in today video coding scenarios (heterogeneous network video distribution, dynamic surveillance systems, mobile video streaming, etc...). The inherent spatial scalability of the multiresolution wavelet representation, the existence of a variety of scalable quality wavelet coding algorithm and the recent results on motion compensated wavelet temporal filtering, have determined a great interest around scalable video coding solutions in the wavelet compression community. In this seminar, an overview of the main wavelet based video coding architectures is presented. Different solutions are compared and their pros and cons highlighted. Then the related research activity and results of our lab (the Signal and Communications Lab. - University of Brescia, Itlay) is presented with particular reference to our proposed inter-scale prediction SVC architecture. |
