Towards Computational Modelling of Music Performance

Simon Dixon
Centre for Digital Music, Queen Mary, University of London

Wednesday 13th December 2006, 4:00pm

Abstract:

In this seminar I present an overview of my research interests, which share a common theme of measurement and modelling of music performance, particularly musical timing. I will describe my work on tempo induction and beat tracking, specifically the interactive beat tracking and annotation system BeatRoot, which was rated best in audio beat tracking in the MIREX 2006 evaluation.

The second topic to be covered is audio alignment and score following, including both on-line and off-line performance matching software (MATCH). If time permits, I will briefly discuss work on automatic transcription, music perception and cognition, and performance visualisation.
