Mobile Multimedia Applications

This seminar will cover topics relating to multimedia applications in a mobile communications environment. We will discuss issues relating to the end-to-end communication system, starting with an analysis of user requirements and user expectations, examining technological issues which influence the applications and services which will be provided on mobile handsets, and evaluating the opportunities and limitations which existing (2.5G) and future (3G and beyond) wireless bearers bring.

Paola Hobson is Manager of Multimedia Applications research at the Motorola UK Research Lab. She is responsible for managing a research team involved in a range of multimedia research programmes including low bit rate multimedia communication systems for public safety customers, streaming multimedia for mobile consumer applications, and user centred design of multimedia technologies for future mobile communication systems.
