Entry Requirements

A Levels

Passes in three GCE A-levels are normally required for admission to the BEng, MEng and BSc(Eng) programmes. Typical grades asked for would be 280-320 UCAS tariff points for BEng programmes and 300-340 points for MEng programmes. BSc(Eng) programmes require 280-320 points. However, at your interview we will carefully consider your overall abilities and engineering aptitudes.

GCE A-level Maths (or equivalent) is essential for all BEng and MEng programmes, and GCSE Maths Grade C for the BSc(Eng) programmes.

GCE A level Physics (or equivalent) is also required for Telecommunications Engineering (H641), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (H600), Electronic Engineering (H610/H614), and Communications Engineering (H640).

AVCE

Vocational A levels in Science, Engineering and Information and Communication Technology are acceptable, provided the appropriate level of Maths is also offered. For exceptional applicants, we will consider AS level Maths offered as part of a broader curriculum model.

BTEC

A good BTEC National Diploma in an appropriate discipline is acceptable.  Please note that IT Practitioners is only acceptable for admission to the BSc(Eng) Programmes. You should have obtained a grade of DDM (BEng) or DDM (MEng or BSc(Eng)).

International Baccalaureate

We also welcome equivalent UK or overseas qualifications, such as the International Baccalaureate (30 points BEng, 34 points MEng or BSc(Eng), with at least 5 points in Maths at higher level).

Access

We accept the appropriate Access qualifications in Mathematics and Electronic Engineering for our BEng and MEng programmes (assessed on an individual basis).

International Students

If you are an international student, you will need to have English Language skills to a recognised standard. The minimum requirement is: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL (CBT) 237,TOEFL (IBT) 92 or TOEFL (written test) 580.

If you do not quite meet this requirement (e.g. if you have IELTS 6.0), you should consider enrolling on a pre-sessional English Language course.
